Spaghtti Tower
On August 30, we conducted an activity called Spaghetti Tower. The main objective of the activity was to build the tallest tower using only tape and uncooked spaghetti strands. We faced many constraints as well, like 500$ budget and air pressure. When the activity began, we started thinking about the shape of our base; we decided to make it a pentagon. We drew our plan onto a piece of paper and sent it to our teacher for a stamp of approval. We went to get the materials when our teacher stamped our paper. With the 500$ budget in mind, we decided to buy 7 cms of tape and 15 sticks of spaghetti. We went back to the table and began building our pentagon. After we finished building the pentagon, we cut the tape into pieces and started taping the sides together; we took 20 mins taping the sides together. Towards the end of class, Mr. Zook, our Physics teacher, said he will put marshmallows up for trade. We were really happy because marshmallows would make allow us to build faster. The next day, we traded all our tape and some of the spaghetti sticks for 11 marshmallows then built the pentagon again. Next, we built supports for the next pentagon. We were progressing faster than expected thanks to the marshmallows. Unfortunately, we only got to 45cm before it came crashing down. Although we didn't fulfill the 75cm goal, I had a lot of fun with my team.
